The English words "problem" and "symbol" are each derived from the same Greek root, namely, ballein, meaning "to throw." In the case of the latter, a "symbol" is something which is "thrown together," while for the former, a "problem" is something "thrown ahead" or "thrown forward." A symbol is something which indeed appears to be thrown together, that is from the raw material of a person's individual or of the greater collective consciousness, or in the Jungian sense, the unconscious. In a dream a symbol may emerge to represent multifaceted aspects of a person's life, in mythology, a symbol is like the tip of an iceberg which holds forth the essence of the depths below. So to, in a sense, of a problem which is thrown in the road of an emerging company. For in solving each problem, the astute should recognize not only the narrow confines of the problem at hand but also its wider and deeper ramifications.]
